India celebrated Justice recently by executing Yakub Memon, the lone convict of the 1993 serial blasts that shattered Mumbai killing 257 people and leaving more than 1,000 injured. Although the decision came after that came after some dramatic legal tug of war and developments, wherein his execution order was upheld by the apex court of law – twice and mercy petition rejected by the President of India – once.

We take this chance to go back over the years and look at some infamous and some not-so-famous executions since independence that gleaned public attention.
